Q Creek Ranches’ livestock operation upholds the agriculture heritage of the region and the ranch. Today’s modern cattle operation is attributed to long term planning that includes weather trends, market conditions, adaptive management, and rangeland monitoring.
Each year in the early spring 6,000 to 10,000 cattle are brought in to graze the protein-rich mountain and prairie grasses. The cattle are a combination of ranch owned and pasture lease cattle. Upon arrival the cattle are placed under the watchful eyes of cowboys. Early mornings and long hours are required by the cowboys to efficiently manage the cattle and pastures which they rely on. Maintaining high-quality pasture is paramount to producing quality livestock and maintaining a sustainable operation. Q Creek Ranch is diligently improving its grazing land by replacing old fences and installing new sources of water throughout the range.
